I’m Finn Shortman, Founder and CEO of Compassion Crew. At 23, I’m a father, a family man, and have been self-employed since leaving high school.

I entered disability support by chance while working as a personal trainer, after a client asked me to support them outside the gym. That experience quickly became a passion. Building genuine relationships, supporting independence, and becoming a trusted part of someone’s life showed me the real impact quality support can have.

It also showed me that this level of care wasn’t the norm. After hearing consistent concerns from participants, I founded Compassion Crew to deliver independent, consistent, reliable, and safe support—driven by true participant choice and control.

Personalised Crew-Based Disability Support

The Compassion Crew provides a unique, participant-first support model built around a personalised support crew rather than rotating individual workers.

Each participant works with us to design a secure, reliable crew based on their required hours of support — ensuring consistency, familiarity, and independence at all times.

Unlike traditional independent arrangements, our crew-based approach removes common issues such as missed shifts, sick leave gaps, and unfamiliar replacements. Your crew ensures continuity of care without sacrificing choice and control.

Every crew is led by a Senior Support Worker, responsible for:

- Coordinating shift coverage

- Managing crew communication

- Resolving day-to-day issues

- Ensuring support runs smoothly and reliably

This structure allows participants to enjoy the flexibility of independent support with the reliability typically associated with agency care — without the downsides of either.

Crew size recommendations are tailored to individual needs, with general guidelines based on required weekly support hours.
